Introduction

Dayshift ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: Email address and password when you create an account
  • User Content: Your responses to all 22 morning excavation questions, your pattern interrupt responses (text and/or 1-5 ratings) throughout the day, your Life Game Board entries (vision statements, goals, missions, daily quests, constraints), and any other text you enter in the app
  • Preferences: Notification settings and schedule preferences, calendar integration preferences (if you opt in), theme and display settings

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers
  • Usage Data: App features used, session duration, interaction patterns, which screens you visit
  • Network Status: Connection status for offline/online sync management
  • Sync Data: Last sync time, pending changes queue, sync status
  • Technical Logs: Error logs and crash data for debugging purposes

Calendar Data (Optional)

If you choose to enable calendar integration, we request permission to add events to your device's native calendar. We only create calendar events for your Reset Day when you explicitly use this feature. We do not read, access, or store your existing calendar data.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the Dayshift service
  • Process your responses and generate your Life Game Board
  • Send you pattern interrupt notifications at your scheduled times
  • Improve and optimize the app experience
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Send important service updates

AI Processing

Dayshift includes AI-powered features to enhance your self-reflection experience. Currently, the AI follow-up questions use a curated question library. In future updates, we may integrate third-party AI services to provide personalized insights and synthesize your responses.

Important commitments:

  • We will never use your personal responses to train AI models
  • AI-generated content is provided for informational and reflective purposes only
  • AI features are not a substitute for professional mental health advice
  • You maintain full ownership and control of all your content

Permissions Required

Push Notifications (Required)

Dayshift requires push notification permissions to deliver pattern interrupt prompts throughout your Reset Day at the times you schedule. This is essential to the app's core functionality. You can customize notification timing in your settings.

Calendar Access (Optional)

If you choose to add your Reset Day to your calendar, we will request permission to create events in your device's native calendar app. This permission is entirely optional and can be granted or revoked at any time through your device settings.

Local Storage

The app stores data locally on your device to enable offline functionality. This allows you to continue your Reset Day even without an internet connection. Changes are automatically synced to the cloud when you reconnect.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption in two locations:

Cloud Storage (Supabase)

We use Supabase, a secure PostgreSQL database platform, for cloud storage. Security measures include:

  • Encryption: All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using TLS/SSL
  • Row-Level Security: Database policies ensure users can only access their own data
  • Authentication: Secure email/password authentication with encrypted credentials
  • Access Controls: Strict access controls and regular security audits
  • Automatic Backups: Regular automated backups to prevent data loss

Local Device Storage

For offline functionality, data is also stored locally on your device. This local storage:

  • Is protected by your device's security features (encryption, passcode, biometrics)
  • Enables you to use the app offline
  • Automatically syncs with cloud storage when online
  • Is cleared when you delete the app or delete your account

Data Retention

  • Active Accounts: Your data is stored indefinitely while your account is active
  • Deleted Accounts: When you delete your account through the app, your personal data is removed from our servers within 30 days
  • Backup Retention: Deleted data may remain in backup systems for up to 90 days for disaster recovery purposes
  • Legal Retention: We may retain certain data longer if required by law or to resolve disputes

You can delete your account at any time through Settings > Data & Privacy > Delete All Data in the app.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Service Providers: Companies that help us operate the app (hosting, analytics, AI processing)
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights

Your Rights

  • Right to Access: You can view all your data at any time within the app
  • Right to Rectification: You can edit and update your responses and account information directly in the app
  • Right to Deletion: You can delete your entire account and all associated data through Settings > Data & Privacy > Delete All Data
  • Right to Data Portability: You can request an export of your data (feature coming soon)
  • Right to Object: You can control notification preferences and other optional features at any time
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You can revoke permissions through your device settings or delete your account at any time

Children's Privacy

Dayshift is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.
